FEDERGREEN ENTERTAINMENT INC. / AVI RONN PRODUCTIONS INC.

Avi Federgreen has one mission: to make films that affect people. The founder of Federgreen Entertainment Inc./Avi Ronn Productions Inc., is committed to developing projects of the highest quality and substance that maintain market appeal in the ever-changing and expanding world of film and television.

Federgreen uses the power of film to evoke the emotion of every type of audience. From music videos to feature films, the imagination is fully engaged. Federgreen’s current projects include I’m Yours produced with Jennifer Jonas and Mallary Davenport of New Real Films, directed by Leonard Farlinger and starring Rossif Sutherland (High Life) and Karine Vanasse (Polytechnique); and as executive producer, Moon Point produced by Sean Cisterna and Christian Potenza, directed by Sean Cisterna and starring Nick McKinlay, Paula Brancati, and Kyle Mac.

Federgreen is currently In post-production on the first ever Canadian fully financed 3D feature titled Dead Before Dawn produced by April Mullen and Tim Dorion of Wango Films and directed by April Mullen. The film stars Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Martha MacIssac  (Super Bad), and Brandon Jay McLaren (The Killing). Federgreen is also in post-production on his next feature film with acclaimed director Michael McGowan entitled Still.

Chosen as the opening film for the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, Score: A Hockey Musical (written and directed by Michael McGowan, starring Olivia Newton-John, Noah Reid, Allie MacDonald, Marc Jordan and Stephen McHattie) captures the fervour of Canada’s two favourite pastimes in a story big on humour and heart. George Ryga’s Hungry Hills (written by Gary Fisher, directed by Rob King, and starring Keir Gilchrist, John Pyper-Ferguson, and Gabrielle Rose), and Leslie: My Name is Evil (produced by New Real Films, directed by Reginald Harkema, starring Kristen Hager, Gregory Smith, and Ryan Robbins) both premiered at TIFF 2009.

“I look for projects that affect me emotionally, with interesting and revealing subject matter.” That approach, while constantly striving for quality and diversity, has led to widespread results. One Week, written and directed by Michael McGowan and starring Joshua Jackson, was named Best Canadian Film in the 2008 Calgary and Edmonton film fests, and was an official gala screening at TIFF 2008. One Week surpassed the $1.2 million Canadian box office mark, was the #1 rental on iTunes and finished in the top 10 in DVD sales in Canada during its first week of release. The feature film High Life, (produced by Triptych Media Inc., directed by Gary Yates, starring Timothy Olyphant, Rossif Sutherland, and Joe Anderson) premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and screened at TIFF in 2009.  The documentary by Scott Smith, As Slow as Possible, focusing on author Ryan Knighton, premiered as an official selection at HotDocs 2008. Pudge, a short film directed by Annie Bradley, was an official selection of TIFF 2008, and screened at several other acclaimed international festivals.

The rewards for Federgreen start when the theatre lights go down. “I want to make films that people spend hours talking about afterwards. That’s what’s important.” We choose projects that will transport audiences from routine realities to rare experiences.

Other projects now in development are:

  • Bridging, written by Sarah Goodman/Brad Hart, directed by Sarah Goodman
  • Prisoner X, written and directed by Gaurav Seth
  • Idaho Winter, written by Tony Burgess
  • Dear Allan, produced with Sarah Zammit and Sarah Goodman and executive producer Colleen Murphy

Success at handling a myriad of filmmaking challenges across the country (Newfoundland, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the Yukon) has armed Federgreen with a unique perspective on many aspects of production. This gives his projects an edge in light of the constant change of the entertainment business.

A hands-on approach, tireless drive, and heralded results bring Federgreen’s vision into the hearts and minds of audiences around the world. He’ll create thirty minutes to two hours that will affect audiences for the rest of their lives.
